Interview with Kiersten Myers – Independent Filmmaker

She goes to Shivela Middle School in Murrieta Ca. Kiersten was 7 years old when she began making videos and has been enjoying film ever since. After experimenting with small videos, Kiersten decided to create, write, direct, and edit a web show called “Mermaid Secrets” on Youtube with her sister Sedona. She eventually learned to edit on different programs and gained a love for film. She has since ended her web show and creates films and videos on her personal youtube channel.

In 6th grade, Kiersten won first place in her school competition in film production and received an award of merit at the district level. In 7th grade, she joined a Video Production Leadership class. In Video Production Leadership, Kiersten was a big influence in raising quality and expectations. While working with her teacher, she introduced a more advanced editing program that is still in use today. She is currently in 8th grade and is still in Video Production.

Over the summer, (2014) Kiersten had an opportunity to create a short film and enter it into the Temecula Valley International Film and Music Festival. Her film, “Future Earth” was awarded first place in the Young Filmmakers category. In April 2015, Kiersten will be working with Gillian Larson (Former “Survivor” Contestant). She will be filming the Reality Rally event in Temecula California in which celebrity reality television stars compete in events to raise money for Michelle’s Place; a breast cancer resource center.

Kiersten was recently invited by CreativeFuture and Hewlett Packard to experience Sundance and Slamdance as a young filmmaker. She had the opportunity to be interviewed, interview others, meet filmmakers, attend panels and more. On her final day, Kiersten was even able to speak to a middle school class about her journey into film and how there are no limitations.

In our interview, we discuss Kiersten’s creative process, her workflows and she passes along her advice to filmmakers of all ages.
